Jhumpa Lahiri

Two of the best short stories which the three or four readers of my blog are likely to come upon….

Yes yes…. the theme is recurring…. after a while NRI-giri also seems a tad monotonous. But she still rocks…

how stupid are you going to label me if i say i bought a Jhumpa Lahiri and never read it?

  2. sukanya March 19, 2007 / 6:16 pm

did i mention i finished The Fountainhead? *grin*

  3. Ameya March 20, 2007 / 12:44 pm

Lol…you are very *ahem* if you have a Lahiri which you haven’t read. She’s my new favourite author. Don’t ask me why though…
And sadly I never really liked Ayn Rand. Too tough to separate the propoganda from the story. But I agree, indeed an achievement to finish one [:)]

Too tough to separate the propoganda from the story true true true.. she goes on for a good 5 pages each time she’s on a topic she likes.

    blah.

Jhumpa Lahiri is next on the list.. but maybe after Roots..

i read both of the above stories..liked em 🙂

@sukanya – gimme the lahiri book, i’ll get the wodehouse tomorrow (boy this sounds like a hostage crisis eh?)

and i dont deserve any respect, for i didnt finish off the fountainhead..coz its plain boring…plus my grandad told me even khushwant singh doesnt read books more than 500 pages…i mean, face it, theyre long, complicated and so totally not understandable..therefore i am avoiding catch 22 too..i like short stories so much more 🙂

arre with short stories there is no need to finish the book. i read one story.. and keep the others for later..

ooh i just realised i haven’t read Dorian Gray. Either of you have a review on it?

  7. Ameya March 26, 2007 / 12:37 pm

Nope…I’ve heard of it but haven’t read it. You’ll have to do the reviewing I guess…

And about the short stories…me too….it’s so nice to just pick out a page at random and start reading any story….
But novels have their own charm….during vacations when you’re home all day or during long train journeys…it’s nice to have something to completely sink into if you get what I’m saying.

  8. acanofworms March 26, 2007 / 12:56 pm

agreed on that point 🙂 novels (i.e. longer short stories) tend to make ones day…

btw, i just realised, i’m one hell of a finicky reader. i refuse to read anything that makes me think/doesn’t have the twist in the end..one does tend to fall for cheap thrills i suppose, i suppose that might be one of the reasons jhumpa lahiri will make it to my favourite authors list..

Naah….Jhumpa Lahiri kinda meanders along….like one of those brooks in a Wordsworth poem. Certainly doesn’t make you exercise those grey cells too much, so dont worry {:P}.

Who is your favourite author then?

And I’m still waitin for that speech thing ya’ know..

  11. acanofworms March 31, 2007 / 4:43 am

i really couldn’t think of a favourite author as such, for, to be honest, I don’t read all that much and I’d be lying if i did give a name. the speech bit is all about how and why icse is better than ssc in every subject and how it helps you cope up later in all spheres of our education system, which ofcourse isn’t anything phenomenal..
